Last game of the day and I got paired up with a space marine player. He had an all foot army so had the advantage but he was rather new to the game. It was kind of interesting that he was also a physics teacher and we ended up talking shop afterwards. He gave me some great tips about trying to start a wargaming club at my school which I may try next year.
His list from what I remember was
Librarian - Terminator Armour, Smite, Gate
Librarian - Smite, Gate
8 Sternguard - 2 combi-meltas, 2 combi-plasma, 2 combi-flamers
10 Terminators - Assault cannon
3x 10 tactical marines - 1 squad had missile launcher & flamer, 1 squad had multi-melta & flamer, 1 squad had lascannon & flamer
5 scouts - sniper rifles
5 scouts - bolters
Land speeder storm - heavy bolter
10 Assault Marines - Powerfist, plasma pistol
5 Assault Marines - Power weapon, plasma pistol
Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
Devastator squad - 2 plasma cannons, 2 heavy bolters
He won the roll off and deployed everything in a line. I deployed rather centrally with the aim of driving my land raiders at his flank away from his terminators.
Space Marine Deployment
Dark Angels Deployment
So the first two turns I spent driving across the board weathering his firepower. It was handy that the lascannon was deployed on the far side so had bad line of sight to my land raiders. This was the only time that my crusader lived past the first turn and boy did that make a difference.
The picture above pretty much shows the beginning of the end. Once my two terminator squads made it to his lines they basically rolled all his basic marines into the ground. His terminators on the other flank were subject to a lot of bolter fire and frag missiles and eventually the dreadnought finished them off. The dreadnought then rolled through the small assault squad and two tactical squads by game's end.
I ended up tabling him and earning all 4 bonus points in this mission.
My opponent could have made a better game of it if he castled his troops in that rather large ruin and force me to come to him. I'd have to weather everything he had to throw at me and whatever survived could get munched on by his assault squads and terminator squads. Oh well, he's still learning. Maybe I will try and get an inter-school league going if I can get a Warhammer club up and off the ground at my school.
SM gunline FTL. They aren't good at that.
